Middle School Summer Reading Program Assignment

Each student is responsible for writing an in-class essay based upon his/her summer reading book selection. This essay will be written by students in class during the first week of school. In order to compose their in-class essay, students are required to complete note cards with information from their book of choice. The required information to be contained on the note cards is outlined below. Students may complete the note cards whenever they wish, but the note cards must be completed by the time of their in-class essay since students will be allowed to use only their note cards to compose their in-class essay. Please note that students may use more than the recommended number of note cards in order to address the requirements listed below.
On the front of NOTE CARD #1 you must include the following:
* Your name
* Title of book you read and number of pages
* Author of book you read
* Your parent/guardian's SIGNATURE
On the back of NOTE CARD #1 you must include the following:
* A brief one or two paragraph summary of the plot
* A description of your favorite scene
* A description of TWO of the main characters
On the front of NOTE CARD #2 you must include the following:
* List your reasons for choosing this particular book
* Describe where and when this story takes place
On the back of NOTE CARD #2 you must include the following:
* What type of person is the main character? Use examples from the book to support your response.
* How does the main character change from the beginning to the end of the story? What caused the change?
On the front of NOTE CARD #3 you must include the following:
* What are your feelings about the subject of the book after reading it? Why?
On the back of NOTE CARD #3 you must include the following:
* Do you feel that this story would make an interesting movie? Why or why not?
On the front of NOTE CARD #4 you must include the following:
* Describe how any character, other than the main character, is essential to the story. What would be missing if this character were not part of the story?
On the back of NOTE CARD #4 you must include the following:
* Is this story similar of different from the experiences of you and your peers?
*What would you have done in the same situation?
* Tell what lessons readers learn about people and/or life in this book.
